Theatre Royal

Over 200 years of exellence, innovation and entertainment

If you somehow just assumed that a city with a history as rich as Bath’s would have one of the country’s oldest and best-looking theatres, then congratulations, you were quite right!

And luckily, if you’re looking for a luxury, independent hotel near to the Theatre Royal, we can oblige.

Guests planning a weekend stay to coincide with a trip to the Theatre Royal are just a short walk away from its Georgian beauty. The theatre was built in 1805 to replace its predecessor, The Orchard Street Theatre, and a performance of Richard III was its first.

During its long history the theatre has survived complete destruction by fire (1862) as well as the bombing of Bath during the blitz. It’s been rebuilt, renovated, adapted and added to, and is now home not only to a wide variety of productions in the main house, but also the nationally-acclaimed Ustinov Studio, (UK premieres, contemporary drama, comedy and music from visiting companies) and the egg theatre for children and young people (all-year-round, age-appropriate entertainment of all kinds).

Why not treat yourselves and, after a great show at this amazing theatre, rather than focus on sorting out your drive or train home, simply stroll back to the loveliness of an intimate, luxury Bath hotel with its snug bar, sumptuous rooms, onsite parking (and brilliant breakfast the next morning).
